Question:
Installing SAS 6.12 in Windows 95 OSR2 (Release 4.00.95B) with USB support
Answer:
Running SAS 6.12 in certain versions of Windows 95 (OSR2 Release 4.00.95B) will cause the
software to crash and, in some instances, cause the system to hang due to the macros that
loop hundreds of times. This is found to be true in some newer systems with
Universal Serial Bus (USB) support. SAS offers a Fiberfix program to circumvent the
problem. The program is available at SAS Institute's Technical Support site:
http://www.sas.com/techsup/download/pc/fiberfix.exe
The self-extractable file contains the program, 612upd1.exe, that fixes the problem. It also comes with brief documentation on installing the program. It is recommended, however, the RSS staff be contacted on installing the program. To date, the installation of Fiberfix has been effective in solving the incompatility problem between SAS 6.12 and Windows 95. We have received no report of any problems resulted from the fix.
